The Idle Hour had a big clock above
the marquee, which can be seen in the photo above and was displayed in the
print ads for the theatre in early years.

The postcard view to the left was the
one of the few pictures I had been able to find of the Idle Hour Theatre,
even though it was in the heart of the downtown shopping district.
The Idle Hour was one of many movie theatres along Howard Street and Lexington
Street, and the name says it all. For those shoppers in the downtown that
had an hour or so to spare while shopping, where else but the Idle Hour
to go ! If you look in the foreground, you can see the tip of the marquee
of the Howard Theatre on the right hand side. Below
are two old ads for the Idle Hour, the second one with the name of the " New
Idle Hour" , which movie houses would often do to let customers know some
renovations had occurred inside. There is plenty of demolition and construction
in the area, but so far, the Idle Hour seems to be unaffected.
