Baltimore has been an industrial city for much of it's past, and while much of the industrial base has left, plenty of reminders can be found all over town.  Sure there is plenty of industry left in Baltimore today, and there are still some big plants in town, but over the years, in a changing world, many of the old factories have closed down or moved to where things can be done cheaper.

While we list this page as " Factories ", you find all types of Baltimore's Industrial past here. Let me know what you think.

Baltimore Factories

In a 1931 Industrial Plant publication for Baltimore City, listings are found of industrial plants that produced just about everything, right here in Baltimore. Here is just a sample of some of the trade names found in that Directory of items made in Baltimore back then  :

Back in the day, we had our milk delivered by the Greenspring Dairy. Delivery of milk  is not longer done in Baltimore, and the old dairy building was vacant for years, before being torn down in the 1980's, and a shopping center went up on the site.

Lord Baltimore Ice Cream

A small ice cream company that operated in Baltimore back in the 1920's. By the early 1930's, Lord Baltimore had an address of 203-211 North Vincent Street, in West Baltimore, near West Lexington Street. I don't believe the building still stands.

Royal Farms Dairy
Baker Street @ Braddish Streets
Office at 3701 Woodbine Avenue ( now residental )

Driving around Baltimore these days, you'll find a Royal Farm store just about anywhere in town. Apparently the chain has roots to this small building on Baker Street, which is currently used as a small mechanical shop to this day.Known as the Royal Dunloggin Dairy in 1949, and trademarks were the Square top bottle and the Baby-top bottle.

I have have a reference to the Wilton Farms Dairy however, located on Frederick Road at Longwood. The investigation continues...........

A recent check on the Hayward address finds that building to still be standing, although for other uses..
