| Essex is a community built just outside the Eastern border of Baltimore City and has plenty of development along Eastern Avenue. During the 1940's and 1950's, the Alert Theatre was listed as the theatre in the 500 block of Eastern Avenue, seating between 285 and 350 people. By the 1951, another theatre was listed for Essex at 416 Eastern Avenue, going under the name of the New Essex Theatre, and seating 625. The building is no longer a movie theatre, and apparently suffered a fire back in the 1950's. |
